NONAKA-HILL GALLERY

Nonaka-Hill is a gallery with two locations in Hollywood, California with a focus on contemporary Japanese artworks being made around the world. I worked as a Designer and Gallery worker making digital artist books and PR materials for the works in the gallery and the artists we represented.

This process was often deadline based centering around upcoming shows and more fluid deadlines concerning the formatting of selected works for museums who would naturally need materials to view artworks from afar. Sometimes mock ups were needed for submissions to art fairs which the gallery would participate in.

Designed materials would go through rounds of revisions with my superiors who I would sit down with in meetings to hash out concepts and updates.

In the art world audiences vary greatly with differing demands for formality of presentation. Some are young vibrant collectors, or art students, who want experimental and enlivened presentations; others are old money collectors who respond well to grace and poise. During my time at the gallery we decided to expand brand identity to engage our younger demographics more directly, and to have more fun ourselves. I used a more causal, and a more formal approach intermittently, when appropriate, to compel target audiences.
